CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We’re passionate about driving positive change for businesses, our community and the world. That’s why we strive to deliver sustainable IT solutions in ethical ways.

PROVIDING SUSTAINABLE IT SOLUTIONS AND SERVICES WITH CARE

At Node4, our team really cares about providing ethical, sustainable solutions that help deliver real change for our clients, as well as the wider world. This includes our UK-wide facilities, such as our sustainable data centres, which help us work towards and attain our ethical goals.

Alongside delivering sustainable services and solutions, we also think it’s important to give back to our communities. Our variety of initiatives, including promoting technology careers in schools and fundraising for our partner charity The Trussell Trust helps us do just this. We’ve been working closely with The Trussell Trust for a number of years, supporting their fundraising campaigns, such as Christmas present and Easter egg collections, and helping collect donations. We’re also proud to have worked with Little John’s House and Rainbows, two amazing organisations that provide vital on-the-ground support for refugees, disadvantaged children and young people with terminal illnesses.

THE IMPORTANCE OF NET ZERO

With the UK Government setting ambitious targets for achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and 2021’s COP26 highlighting the dangers of climate change, it’s important organisations of all sizes are putting their focus on sustainability.

The conference put a spotlight on the business world, discussing how organisations can contribute towards the fight against climate change. As a critical infrastructure operator, Node4 takes sustainability seriously and because our data centres have a high energy demand, we’re committed to thinking smart about net zero and doing our bit for the environment.

The net zero target set by the government is high on our risk agenda, but it’s also reflected in our company culture. Trust, innovation and passion are what drive our team, and we believe these to be the key focuses needed for hitting net zero. We strive to make changes that promote longevity and adaptability, whilst having a lesser impact on the world, benefitting our clients and our planet.

UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Node4, alongside Node4 Channel, continue to work towards aligning our CSR strategy and activities with the United Nations’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at both a local and national level. The SDGs are a shared action, calling on everyone to help end poverty, protect the planet and improve lives and prospects for all by 2030.

TECH ZERO

In April 2023, Node4 signed up to Tech Zero, a group for technology companies that are committed to fighting the climate crisis together – helping us work towards a goal of measuring, reducing and removing our emissions. We’re committed to achieving our net zero goals, as well as working to help our clients reach their own net zero targets by 2050.

We’ve calculated the necessary reduction in global emissions and published our Net Zero strategy, discussing the extent to which our business activities are based on carbon output for a defined scope and fiscal year, and ensuring we’re offsetting any remaining emissions. Whether we’re building new data centres or upgrading existing facilities, ensuring high energy efficiency standards is our top priority. Our long-term goal is to use 100% clean and renewable energy across our global platform.

OUR WORLD

Sustainability is incredibly important to us. Every day, we take key steps towards reducing our carbon footprint, including buying REGO energy. We power hundreds of businesses in our data centres, from healthcare providers to transportation companies, and 98% of our electricity is used by our data centres to deliver essential services to customers. We closely monitor our power usage and emissions to ensure we’re delivering any savings directly to our clients. Not to mention, we’ll be continually improving our data centre efficiency in line with recommendations and technology innovations.

Hosting IT systems in an energy-efficient environment is one of the best ways to reduce carbon footprint, and our data centres are a great way to achieve this. They also help companies adopt other energy-saving initiatives, remote/hybrid working and video conferencing – all great ways of helping improve sustainability.

We’ve been recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™, published by Great Place to Work® for the last three years in a row. This achievement recognises the efforts and improvements we’ve been making each year and we’re proud to provide an excellent experience for all our employees.

Whether we’re recruiting a new apprentice or providing a fresh challenge for a more established professional, our diversity and equal opportunities policies lay a solid foundation for how we work and treat our new and longstanding employees.

At Node4, we put a strong focus on helping young people launch their careers in technology. OUR CONDUCT

We’re truly passionate about Exceptional Service as a Standard (ESaaS). Whether we’re interacting with colleagues, clients or partners, it’s our main driver and integral part of our culture. It’s the foundation of our business. It ensures we’re understanding and meeting our client's needs and providing them with tailored, quality-assured services and solutions based on our expertise with all relevant legislations considered.

For our new starters, we provide a detailed training programme to get them up to speed with our conduct and comfortable in their new role, with all employees partaking in refresh sessions yearly. These help us provide our employees with the tools, techniques and language they need to consistently provide exceptional service, not just to our clients, but across the business, too.
